Visa Gift Cards FAQ

Q: How does the gift card work?
A: The gift card is a prepaid card that can be used most places Visa debit cards are accepted. Because it is a prepaid card, spending is limited to the amount of money on the card. When a purchase is made with the gift card, the purchase amount is deducted from the card balance.

A: DFCU Financial Visa Gift Cards will be sold at all 12 of our branches only, and cannot be ordered online.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum dollar amount for the Gift cards?
A: Visa gift cards cannot be issued for less than $25 or for more than $500.
The minimum amount is $25
The maximum amount is $500

Q: Do I have to activate the card?
A: No. The card has already been activated with the dollar amount you purchased

Q: What are the fees and cost for the Gift cards?
A: Cost and fees for the Visa Gift cards are as follows:

Price per gift card: $3.50 per Gift card

Monthly Card Fee: After the first 12 months, a maintenance fee of $2.50 a month will be charged to the card, until the card expires.

Replacement/Renewal Fee: A $7.50 fee will be charged to the card if the card is reissued or replaced.

Unloading Fee: A fee of $15 will be charged to the card if it is cashed out at expiration, or anytime before (see Visa Gift Card Terms & Conditions under Early Closure)

Q: Do I need to register my gift card?
A: We encourage you to register the card in your name on the Visa Gift Card Website. By registering the card, we can establish your relationship to the Card in the event it is lost, stolen, or destroyed.

Q: How do I report a gift card lost/stolen?
A: If a gift card has been lost or stolen you can call 866-902-6082.

  • Cardholders can visit any of our 12 DFCU Financial branch locations that issue gift cards to get a replacement card.
  • Cardholders must have their complete 16-digit card number before a replacement card can be reissued.
  • If the cardholder does not have the complete 16-digit card number, but has registered their card online, we can pull up the card information by their name, or social security number.
  • A fee of $7.50 will be debited from the available balance of the card before a new card is issued. The balance must be at least $32.50. If the balance is less than $32.50 we will simply unload the card, and no fee will be applied.

Q: Can I purchase a gift card over the phone or web?
A: No. You must come into any of our 12 branches in person to purchase a gift card.

Q: Is the gift card a credit card?
A: No. The gift card is a prepaid card. While it looks similar to a credit card, gift cards can only spend up to the balance on the card.

Q: How can I get the balance on my gift card?
A: Cardholders can get their available balance two ways:
1. They can call the number on the back of their card 866.902.6082 or
2. They can check their balance by going to: https://mygiftcardaccount.pscufs.com

Q: What do I do if the merchant asks me “Debit” or “Credit”?
A: If a merchant asks you “Debit” or “Credit” always hand your gift card to the cashier and say, “Credit.” If a merchant asks you to swipe your card through a terminal, always press the “Credit” button, or tell the cashier you would like to sign for the purchase.

Q: Can I return merchandise that I bought with my gift card?
A: Merchants have their own return policies. They may credit your gift card, give you cash, or provide you with an in-store credit. If your gift card is credited, it may take up to a week before the refund is put back onto your gift card and available for use. Always ask them their return policy before you purchase your merchandise.

Q: What do I do if I have a dispute? What is the dispute process?
A: You can call 866.902.6082, and you must call no later than 60 days after the transaction in question appeared on the transaction activity report.
