DFCU Financial will award four scholarships (one in metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing and Grand Rapids) to high school seniors who demonstrate community service and academic achievement. Each award will total $2,000.
The following conditions apply for the scholarship consideration:
The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, remain a full time student and continue to be a member in good standing of DFCU Financial.
Eligible applicants must:
(1) be a member of DFCU Financial,
(2) be a graduating high school senior,
(3) demonstrate a commitment to community service,
(4) be preparing to attend an accredited college, trade school or university.

An application will THEN
be sent via SECURE mail and applicants should opt in by following the instructions. The applicant must then submit:
(1) a completed application (which will be included in the SECURE email) with supporting documentation,
(2) an official (raised seal or signature) high school transcript with a minimum 3.0 GPA (due by June 30, 2017)
(3) a 300-500 word original typewritten essay on the following topic:
"How has your current volunteer involvement impacted you and the local communities you serve?"

The focus of these scholarship awards is on service to community. Each applicant will be scored in two areas of concentration.
Essay (40 points)
Community Involvement (20 points)
Essays must be between 300-500 words and will be scored on the following: meaningfulness/impact on applicant’s life, originality/creativity, grammar, and clarity of expression and composition (structure and the flow of the essay). All essays must be typed, not handwritten. Applicants are asked to avoid identifying themselves, using proper names or specifically identifying names (including school and church names) in their essays.
Each winner must begin studies within one year of this notification and agree to allow DFCU Financial to use his/her name and photograph in our promotional materials. All decisions of the judging panel are final. Relatives of DFCU Financial employees and board members are not eligible to participate. DFCU Financial is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail. In order to be considered for these awards, all documentation must be received by the due date. All submitted materials become the property of DFCU Financial.
